Teamsters who deliver food to Safeway Stores across Northern California could soon strike.

The teamsters work for Summit Logistics in Tracy, and they're looking for a new contract. Last night they voted down the latest offer from management. Workers says unsafe working conditions, harsh disciplinary procedures and low wages are the major contract issues.

Summit hopes to avoid a strike but says if workers walk out, replacements will be brought in to keep stores fully stocked. However, many Safeway Stores are already receiving only half their normal shipments, leaving some bare spots on the shelves.

The Teamsters will meet again later this week to discuss plans for a possible strike
