A crew of workers was doing some work along the road. They were digging trenches. They accidentally dug in the wrong place.

When the workers were digging they cut through the main telephone line for a town. They did not do this on purpose. It was an accident.

The telephones in the town did not work for several hours. People could not make any phone calls out of town. They also could not receive any phone calls.

It can be very dangerous when telephone lines are not working. People cannot call 911 if there is an emergency. Something had to be done until the phone lines could be fixed.

It was decided that all 911 calls would be transferred to an area that was working. Emergency calls were answered there. The telephone lines were finally fixed later that same day.
