Something happened in Phoenix, Arizona on March 13, 1997. Many people saw lights moving in the sky that night. The people did not know what the lights were. What the lights were is a mystery.
Some military officials say that the lights were just flares. There is a firing range close to where the people saw the lights. The military says flares were used to light up the sky that night. Many people do not believe that explanation. They think the lights were Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO's).
There were a lot of people looking at the sky that night. They were looking for a comet called Hale-Bopp. In addition to the comet they saw moving lights in the sky. People who saw the lights said that it looked like they were flying over the whole state. They said that the lights could not be flares because they moved so much.
Steve Lantz is a film producer. He helps make films about different things. He does not know what the lights are. He thinks that the lights are a mystery and could be UFO's. He saw a movie called "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" when he was a child. Ever since then he has been very interested in UFO's.
Mr. Lantz met with someone who saw the lights in Phoenix. Her name is Dr. Lynn Kitei. Not only did she see the lights but she took pictures and videotaped them. Together they decided to make a movie about the strange lights. They wanted to do a more complete story than what the news coverage had been about the moving lights that night.
Their film is a documentary. A documentary is a film based on real events that includes pictures. They used the pictures and video that Dr. Kitei took of the lights.
They both worked on the film. Dr. Kitei wrote the script and interviewed other people who saw the lights. Mr. Lantz edited the film and even wrote the music for it. They also paid to have the movie made. Steve Lantz said they made the film because they felt it was very important.
The movie was played at a film festival in New York. Steve Lantz won an award for the film.
