Many areas of California use voting machines. It is important that the machines work well. Some people are afraid that the machines are not reliable. They also worry that the machines could be tampered with.

The Secretary of State is a man by the name of Bruce McPherson. Mr. McPherson said that the machines must be tested before they can be certified in California. He also wants the company that makes the machines to turn in some important information about the memory cards they use. The company is not sure they want to do that. They are worried that their ideas could be stolen.

The company that makes the machines is located in Texas. They said that they will look at the request to turn in the information. They also said that they are willing to prove that their machines very work well.
