People that live in America vote for things that they want. There are many elections every year. Americans vote for people to help make laws for us to follow. They make decisions to help our lives be better.
Sometimes elections can seem like they are not very important. Some people who can vote choose not to. Others think that their vote will not make a difference. Sometimes not very many people will vote.
There was an election in November of 2000. Many people in California turned out to vote. People were voting for the President. This person would be the leader of the United States of America for four years. They were also voting on some new laws.
One person said that it was the highest turn out of voters for an election in California. Many people mailed in their choices. Most people were interested in choosing who they wanted for President.
The new laws were also very interesting. There were many different kinds. People want to be able to choose which ones they want.
